Support

UWMF offers phone support for users during regular business hours (608-829-5474).

Limited phone support is offered after hours for urgent issues when regular business hours do not suffice.

Because of the varied age and/or type of computer system that you may have, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to make it work. Also, because of liability and staffing limitations, we are unable to come on-site to your home to resolve access problems. If you want to bring the system to the Excelsior location, we will gladly assist you with the install and verify that it is working before you leave. Please call the Help Desk (608-829-5474) to schedule a time so that we can make sure a tech is available to help you.

Why do I have to log in to the UWMF network for ESig and EpicWeb now (12/27/2007)?

Prior to 12/27, these applications allowed any person to attach to the Citrix servers, before providing any authentication to the application itself. This presented a security vulnerability that could potentially be used to compromise the UWMF network. By requiring a user to provide UWMF network credentials before launching the application, we have eliminated this as a possible attack path in to the UWMF network.

What do the references to colors mean?

This refers to the number of colors available for the Citrix client to use.
High Color/16-bit has a color pallete of 65,536 colors to use.
True Color/24-bit has a color pallete of 16,777,216 colors to use.
256 Colors is self explanatory.

The fewer colors that are available, the more likely you will see banding/dithering, as the system tries to blend the limited color pallete together to represent colors that are not directly available.

With all the choices, which color option should I select?

The general recommendation here is to select the option that meets your needs, while using the fewest number of colors. Typically if you are needing to view images, we will say you should use either the High or True Color options. If what you are looking at is mostly text (black and white) information, then 256 colors will be more than enough. Email, Epic Text, and most Desktop sessions are good candidates for using the 256 color versions. Epic Hyperspace could go either way depending on how you use the Epic client.

We use Broadband/LAN/Dialup descriptors to give you an idea of which color grouping runs best for your type of connection. This is only a recommendation and you can use what you feel is appropriate.

One important thing to note, is that when there are more colors used by your application, there is a potential for it to degrade your performance. The more colors that are displayed, the more network bandwidth that will be used by your connection.

I'm running a Desktop session, but I don't see 'My Computer'. Where is it?

Within a Citrix desktop session we rename 'My Computer' to reflect your userid and the server you are attached to. This helps to differentiate a Citrix session from the typical PC.
